in the woods

Just back from a working weekend away in the Blue Mountains. A lovely couple of days drawing and painting, only stopping every now and then for walks, cafe visits, and cups of tea with biscuits. It was so nice to get away from distractions and because we were in such such beautiful surroundings it didn't seem like work at all.

So two peaceful deep sleeps later, and we're back in Sydney. I got lots of work done, and have put a few new things up in the shop. And lots more work in progress.

some new prints

I've been playing around with some abstract designs that I did when I was studying textile printing and design a few years ago. Back then they were printed in repeat on 3 metre lengths of fabric, something I'd love to do again next time I get a 3 metre long table! In the meantime, I've adapted some of the designs, added texture, selected some colour elements from my other images, and printed them onto Arches fine art paper.

Recently I was asked to do some artwork for a friend who has a very large wall beside a staircase. There's a lot of space and the wall can be seen from different parts of the house. Anyway she had the idea of using a combination of figurative and pattern-based images which could be arranged onto this wall. Which I think is a great idea.

nice surprises

Two lovely things happened today. I received a parcel in the mail from Amy Earles who has an etsy shop called woolandwater.

I love Amy's images, and really like that they are paper dolls.

And then I was pointed towards a really great blog called roadside scholar and you really should check out this blog not only because it's good, but because Gigi (who is the roadside scholar) has written a post about yellowmonday.

The roadside scholar has gathered together a great list of objects from lots of different areas - handmade goods, glass, metal, mixed media, painting, wood, photography, poetry, art, painting, illustration, design, short stories. So apart from seeing my little post it's really worth a look.

a nice cup of tea

I've just realised that this blog is going to provide fabulous opportunity to share the details of one of my dearest passions - the cup of tea.

I love a nice cup of tea. And I love tea cups, tea pots, tea cosies, kettles, the sound of a kettle coming to the boil, making a really good cup of tea for someone else who loves tea, turning the pot thrice widdershins (only tea drinkers will know about this), a cup of tea in bed, a cup of tea after dinner, a thermos of hot tea on a winter's day picnic. I even like tea made with tea bags. I could go on, but for now I'll just show you my new pink cups.

a blog

Welcome to my blog. I'll be using this blog to keep a record of my image making, and as a place to collect ideas, images and bits and pieces that I come across in my day to day. I opened my shop on etsy nearly 2 weeks ago so at the moment my head is just full of the images I have been working on for that.

I tend to fiddle with images for a long time so it is always good to have a reason to say "OK that's finished now" and get on with the next one. Still I'm not as bad as a friend of mine who is a painter. A lot of people who know him and own his paintings have had to keep an eye on him, because he has been known to disappear into the next room with a brush to "just alter a few details" on one of his paintings. Which I suppose is fine unless you're perfectly happy with it the way it is. Apparently he house-sat a house which had some of his paintings in it, and the owners returned from their holiday to find significantly updated versions of their paintings.
